BREWERY CHILLERS

How Much Is Downtime Costing You? Why a JC Younger Rental Chiller Is the Smartest Move This Summer

Why a JC Younger Rental Chiller Is the Smartest Move This Summer Downtime hurts. Every hour without reliable cooling means lost product, missed deadlines, and stressed-out staff. When summer heat hits your facility, there’s no time for repair delays or DIY fixes. If you operate a brewery, distillery, food or milk processing plant, or another industrial facility, your glycol system is the backbone of production. When it falters, everything stops. At JC Younger, we know downtime is more than inconvenient — it’s expensive. That’s why our rental chillers are built for speed, performance, and simplicity. They arrive ready to run. You plug them in, power up, and get back to business. The Real Cost of Chiller Downtime When your chiller fails, here’s what you’re risking: Spoiled product that can’t be sold or shipped  Ruined fermentation or distillation runs  Missed deadlines for distribution  Overtime wages trying to recover lost time  Safety issues from overheating equipment or product  Just one bad batch at a midsize brewery could cost $5,000–$20,000. For food and milk processors, missed temperature holds could lead to product recalls or failed audits. Every hour counts — the longer you wait, the more it costs. What’s Included With Your JC Younger Rental No surprises. No missing parts. Every rental comes fully prepared to get you running fast: Pre-filled glycol mixture  Digital thermostat and controls pre-set  Transformer, hoses, and power cord (if needed)  Support during install — over the phone or virtual walk-through  Access to real JC Younger technicians, not bots  Spare parts stocked on-site for quick fixes  Two preventive maintenance inspections (PMI) per year to ensure long-term performance  Option to bring in a certified JC Younger Senior Tech for startup and training, available at $2,500/day plus expenses  We size chillers to your specific load and ship from multiple nationwide staging locations to minimize downtime. No guessing. No scrambling. Just cold air and stability when you need it most. Why Rentals Convert Better Than Repairs in High-Risk Months From June through August, delays are common. Technicians are booked out. Parts are backordered. Even if you get a repair, there’s no guarantee it will last the season. Here’s the smarter move: Rent first. Repair later. Scenario Total Downtime Lost Output Value Confidence in Cooling Wait for Repair/non Jcy 3–5 days $10,000+ Low Attempt DIY Fix 2–5days $8,000+ Low Rent JC Younger Chiller/Onsite 24 Hours  1 Day production High Many rentals are also covered by insurance, reducing your out-of-pocket cost. What Makes Our Rentals “White-Glove”? You do not just get a box on a pallet. You get a fully operational system, tested and shipped with your timeline in mind. JC Younger rentals include: Fast nationwide shipping Pre-configured glycol mix On-site support or virtual install help Phone access to our techs during hookup Step-by-step instructions for your team If needed, we can coordinate with your facility engineer or maintenance crew to confirm specs, voltage, layout, and capacity. We are not just renting equipment. We are making sure you succeed with it. Built for Breweries, Distilleries, Food & Milk Processors Our chillers are trusted by: Breweries expanding production in peak months  Distilleries needing consistent barrel cooling  Milk processors meeting tight USDA temperature standards  Food facilities ramping up for seasonal volume  Whether it’s a one-week emergency or a three-month backup plan, we’ve got systems from 3 HP to 75+ HP ready to go.   Want Backup on Site for Under $15 a Day? The Difference Between Craft and Domestic Beers

Beer is beer, right? Wrong! To beer connoisseurs, craft and domestic beer are different. Domestic beers appear a light yellow. The beers range from pale yellow to medium yellow. When you pour a domestic beer, the head is short-lived. The foamy bubbles are carbon dioxide rising to the glass surface. The beer temperatures are usually freezing in an attempt to hide the flavors. Domestic beer tastes bland due to its ingredients and is cheaper because it uses rice and various other elements. Some examples include the famous Budweiser and Coors. Craft beer is very different from domestic beer. Craft beers are brewed in small breweries, traditional and independent. Their annual distribution is no more than 6 million barrels of beer. Examples include Samuel Adams and the Sierra Nevada. J.C. Industrial chillers have been employed in breweries for the past several decades to control the temperature of liquids like wort and beer during all stages of production, including fermentation, storage, and packaging. Industrial chillers are also used to control humidity levels in brewery areas. Five Industrial Chiller Related Questions 1. Outdoor Chiller versus an Indoor Chiller? The main difference between industrial chillers is where they are located and how they function, each with its own benefits and drawbacks. Industrial chillers that are designed to be placed outside or in a cold storage area typically have more space for larger components and the compressor is usually at one end of the chiller. Industrial chillers located indoors may need less room for equipment but can be limited by space constraints since most industrial chillers need to sit on a concrete floor where they can draw cool air in from outdoors. Industrial chillers that are designed for outdoor use typically run at a higher cycle rate than indoor industrial chillers, but they can be more expensive to operate. Industrial chillers that are designed to be placed indoors function more efficiently, but they also tend to cost more because of their smaller size and need for specialty insulation. 2. Are Industrial Chillers Expensive? Industrial chillers can be expensive to purchase outright, but renting them could end up being a better option for your business over time. Industrial chillers range in price from $2,000 to several thousand dollars. Industrial chillers can require costly repairs if they are not maintained properly by the manufacturer. Industrial brewers must carefully choose between purchasing and renting an industrial chiller because of their high cost of upkeep and purchase. JC Younger Industrial Chillers provides professional services for installations and preventative maintenance, so you can ensure your chillers are operating at peak performance. 3. How Does an Industrial Chiller Work? Industrial chillers take a liquid, like water or wort from a mash tun, and circulate it through a set of pipes to a compressor where the …

How to Start Your Own Brewery

So you have decided to start your own brewery. The good news is, the process of starting your own brewery is much like starting any other business. If 2021 figures prove to be accurate at years end, this country will have in excess of 9000 independent breweries and there is no reason that yours cannot be one of them. In this post, we are going to give you some more information on starting your brewery. The difference is, this information is an excellent starting point. If your brewery is just getting off the ground, this might just be the information you need to start your brewery in the right direction. You Need a Business Plan… And a Plan for Everything Else! Every startup begins with a solid business plan. Once you have accomplished the writing of this business plan, begin to formulate a plan for every minute detail of your brewery from location, to equipment, and products as well as inventory. Stay ahead of the startup curve by having a solid plan for everything and make sure that you and your team execute that plan when the time comes. Planning every detail along the way from concept to realization will let any potential investors know how serious and committed you are to starting this brewery. Find a need and then fill that need with solutions. This needs to be the backbone of every step of planning your brewery. You Need a Team… For Everything! Surround yourself with the right people. Build the team that has your end goal in mind. Empower each team member with specific tasks, and let them know how often they need to let you know how their projects are going. For example, have a team member that is responsible for; Finding the perfect location and negotiating lease or buy opportunities for what is right for your company Finding the equipment your brewery will need and also negotiate lease or buy tactics Keeping the necessary permits and license current  Developing any new products, and  improving the ones that will be the anchor of your brewery Staying on top of the current laws and regulations regarding your brewery Of course, you will be ultimately responsible for each step of opening your brewery but keep in mind that you have a good team behind you so that you can pay attention to those little things that will set your brewery apart from the crowd. There may be several microbreweries and pub breweries in your target market area, so make sure you have that one little thing that makes your brewery unique. Getting the Right Equipment for Your Start-Up Brewery When the time comes to begin thinking about equipment for your brewery there is going to be a few things to keep in mind; How much beer are you looking to produce on an annual basis? Will you need production equipment only, or do you plan on selling your product in your own pub or restaurant? Should you lease or buy your equipment? In the case of most start-up breweries, it just makes better sense to lease your equipment until your product reaches the stage where it now has a fair share of the market in your area. Once this happens, then yes by all means purchase your own equipment. When the time comes to begin thinking about the chiller of choice for your brewery, give the team at JC Younger Company the opportunity to be a part of your team! They have the ideal chillers for your specific product, with lease or buy options available. Why not give the JC Younger Company a call, or go by their website when your new brewery is looking for just the right chiller, for your unique start-up brewery!

The Breweries and Chillers Keeping the Beer Chilled

Finding the Breweries to Enjoy Summer 2020 Summer is now upon us, and it’s during the heat of the hotter months that beers are part of many American outdoor adventures. Craft breweries offer beers throughout the year to celebrate “the seasonality of beer.” As Pour My Beer explains, summer beers “are light and drinkable,” with the flavors of fruit, wheat, pale and hoppy, and the classic pilsner” being the choice across America. Whether you’re staying close to home, or you’re planning on a well-planned summer adventure, you may want to know what breweries are open in your hometown or along your vacation route. Brewbound is a resource to see what’s brewing in their brewery database. Ice-Cold is Great for Summer Beers, but Not Always the Best for All Beers There is nothing better than an ice-cold beer in the heat of the summer, but not all beers are good at supercold temperatures. Food & Wine explains why you don’t want to drink every beer ice-cold. “Much like wine, different beer styles actually have different serving temperatures.” Chilling is Not Only for the Final Product Breweries require ultimate chilling processes to guarantee the taste that flows from bottles and taps. The chiller system, glycol chillers, plays a major role in every brewery, guaranteeing the quality of the final flow from bottles, growlers, and taps, as explained in The Equipped Brewer. J.C. Younger: A Leader in the Manufacturing of Brewery Glycol Chillers Whether you’re an up and running brewery, or you’re contemplating opening up a new brewery in your neighborhood, you want to partner with a chiller manufacturing that has everything you will need to keep your brewery operational. SANDY YOUNGER

President

Sandy has been in the background of JCY since a baby, growing up playing on chiller systems in the large 12,000SQFT pole shed JCY stores units in. Sandy started working at a young age doing simple tasks like sweeping, painting, organizing Copper fittings and other small tasks. In 2005 Sandy started his 4 year degree at Dunwoody College and graduated in 2007.

During his schooling their he also started his apprenticeship under his fathers supervision. The training consisted of installs of glycol piping in the field, building first chiller and assisting with Chiller service repairs. In 2006 he started learning the in and outs of breweries, and has been JCY’s brewery specialist since then. A challenge he took on was glycol piping a 30 bbl brewery by him self and completed that task in less than 20 day with 16 hour shifts.
In his free time he enjoys taking his grandmother out for meals, fishing and spending time with girlfriend and dog Sara.
