The Chiller Purpose and the Advantages of a JCY Chiller

What Do Chillers Do?

As the name implies, a chiller is used for a cooling process. The varying sizes and types of chillers are based on what an application needs to be chilled or cooled.

A chiller is an expensive investment that is necessary for many application processes, and it is critical that a chiller efficiently works. It is vital to find the right manufacturer with chillers solutions to meet your needs. At J.C. Younger (JCY), we offer exceptional chillers for a variety of applications.

Chiller Liquid Components

All chillers are used to extract heat and cool down the fluids that flow through their uniquely structured systems.

In most chiller systems, water or a water/glycol mixture is used for the cooling process. We will go into a more detailed review of a glycol chiller whenever it would be more beneficial to the cooling application requirements.

The other fluid that is part of the process is the refrigerant that is used to extract the heat from the water or water/glycol mixture that does the cooling. As you will learn in the Newsrefrigerants are a topic in discussion across the world.

Chiller Basic Parts

Every chiller has four major parts: evaporator, condenser, compressor, and expansion valve. Each has its individual purpose. An excellent resource to obtain an in-depth knowledge of chillers can be found on The Engineering Mindset with detailed videos and explanations. The JCY team will also go over everything you need to understand how your chiller system works.

The evaporator is the part that collects unwanted heat, and it also produces chilled water for the cooling process.

The condenser circulates the refrigerant around the water that loops through the condenser to remove the heat.

The compressor transfers the refrigerant into the condenser. There are different types of compressors, and the application size is a factor in determining the type of compressor that is best to employ.

The expansion valve allows the right amount of refrigerant needed into the evaporator.

Air-Cooled Chillers vs. Water-Cooled Chillers

Chillers are either air-cooled or water-cooled systems. We have a variety of information on these two types of chillers. At J.C. Younger, we customize the right type of chiller to meet the exact needs of each individual customer.

After many years in the residential side of work, Sam took a chance back in 2018 to work in the commercial side of hvac with Jc younger. Since started working with them, Sam has been streamlining Jc younger to make the service side quicker at getting customer back to cooling right away. He always puts the customer needs first, giving them great customer service, and getting them back cooling right away. Sandy has been in the background of JCY since a baby, growing up playing on chiller systems in the large 12,000SQFT pole shed JCY stores units in. Sandy started working at a young age doing simple tasks like sweeping, painting, organizing Copper fittings and other small tasks. In 2005 Sandy started his 4 year degree at Dunwoody College and graduated in 2007.

During his schooling their he also started his apprenticeship under his fathers supervision. The training consisted of installs of glycol piping in the field, building first chiller and assisting with Chiller service repairs. In 2006 he started learning the in and outs of breweries, and has been JCY’s brewery specialist since then. A challenge he took on was glycol piping a 30 bbl brewery by him self and completed that task in less than 20 day with 16 hour shifts.
